About Julia

I’m Dr. Julia Hurtado, PT, DPT, NCS and I have over 13 years of experience in specialized vestibular physical therapy practice. I’m passionate about working with my clients to help them achieve their goals.

I earned my doctorate at Emory University and began my practice at a Level I trauma center. I evaluated and treated people who had survived catastrophic injuries and, even when they had broken bones or other medical complications, I quickly learned that their biggest concern was often their dizziness. I saw how treating the sensory systems could help retrain the body and I wanted to learn everything about it. I completed a vestibular competency course, became certified in dry needling, and have taken dozens of other classes on advanced vestibular rehabilitation.

As I earned my board-certification in neurologic physical therapy, I practiced in inpatient rehab units and outpatient clinics. I became especially passionate about sports neurology and landed at a multidisciplinary concussion rehab program. Throughout my career, I’ve successfully treated thousands of people with neurologic sensitivities that lead to dizziness and headache as well as vestibular impairments that result from injury or disease. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with Olympic gold medalists, and athletes from the NFL, MLS, NCAA, and Atlanta Ballet and helped return them to the high level of function they enjoyed prior to injury. My areas of expertise include:

  • Concussion and sports neurology

  • Migraine

  • Whiplash

  • POTS and dysautonomia

  • BPPV or positional vertigo

  • Vestibular Hypofunction

  • Meniere’s Disease

  • Mal de Debarquement

  • Balance and walking disorders

  • Multiple Sclerosis

  • Parkinson’s disease

  • Functional neurologic disorders including PPPD or 3PD

I’ve served as clinical faculty at Emory University’s School of Medicine and have been an invited speaker for both statewide and national conferences. I’ve taught advanced courses on the assessment and treatment of dizziness and balance. I’ve published clinical research on vestibular physical therapy and received a grant from the National Institute of Health to continue these studies. But my favorite accomplishment of all is the hard-earned trust I gain from my patients. I care deeply about our process being collaborative, and I always prioritize treating the whole person rather than just this one hard thing they’re going through.
